Visiting Rutland? Don’t miss out on our amazing pubs!
We are just constructing this useful guide – so bear with us! We will do our best to keep information accurate and up-to-date. Please let us know if you have any comments, spot any errors – and of course if you know a good, friendly-pub in Rutland that is missing from the list.
Most of these pubs are dog-friendly, but there are a couple where you will need to be with your dog in the garden. We will highlight this in the description.
[If your pub is listed please let us know any updates or corrections. If you’re not listed then send us your details and we’ll get onto it!]
WHISSENDINE: The White Lion Inn
Perhaps we’re biased but this is our local pub and we don’t think you’ll find a better, friendlier village pub in Rutland. Dogs are welcome in the bar and garden, beers are top-notch and good food is served in the bar and restaurant. As an added bonus the owner, Chris, is an extremely talented magician and a member of the Inner Magic Circle so keep an eye on the White Lion’s website for up coming events (they sell out super-quick though).

Baunston in Rutland: The Blue Ball
The Blue Ball is absolutely our favourite ‘cut above the rest’ pub and restaurant. Hidden the heart of beautiful Braunston village, we’re pretty sure this is Rutland’s oldest pub. With great walking from the doorstep the Blue Ball has it all. A great welcome, traditional beers and wonderful food – do try to visit this gem during your visit to Rutland. If you stay at Greendale Farm Park you will automatically be classed as a Blue Ball VIP and be able to take advantage of their generous monthly offers!
Dogs are welcome on the deck and in all outside areas, but not in the bar and restaurant.

Barrowden: The Exeter Arms
Completely refurbished by new owners in 2016, The Exeter Arms offers fabulous food and a warm welcome. We have not visited ourselves, but the pub has been recommended to us and our latest information (summer 2017) is that dogs are allowed in the bar area.

OAKHAM: The Grainstore
A fantastic pub & brewery descending from the old Ruddles Brewery in Langham. Traditional surrundings, good food and dog-friendly (the owners have dogs). But the main attraction is the beer!
Keep an eye on the Grainstore’s website for events: their comedy nights are terrific. And don’t forget Oakham’s annual beer festival; The Grainstore is a leading player in this wonderful week-long event.

OAKHAM: The Admiral Hornblower
A freindly and welcoming pub located centrally in beautiful Oakham. Great food including brunch, lunch and evening meals. A perfect place to meet up and wander around Oakham. We can vouch for the freindliness, good service, the quality of the food and the doggy-friendliness. Well worth a visit…

MARKET OVERTON: The Black Bull
A fine and welcoming village pub with a traditional feel – thatched roof, open fire, good food and good local walking. The current owners have dogs and yours are welcome to accompany you in the pub too.
