Rutland is England’s smallest county. It offers a perfect escape from the rat-race and has so much to offer its visitors. Maybe you’re seeking the bird-watching and wildlife, the rolling countryside, the beautiful friendly villages, the historical market towns or perhaps the more active pursuits such as walking, cycling and watersports. Whatever your reason for visiting Rutland and Rutland water, there can be no better base than one of our fabulous campsites.
Rutland offers a variety of campsites to suit every taste and requirement, from a simple field with no facilities, through an adults-only tranquil site to a busy and popular family destination. We’ll highlight some of our favourites in this short article.

So here are some of our favourite campsites both around Rutland Water and elsewhere in Rutland:
The Basics – Good Campsites with Limited Facilities
Lyndon Top Caravan Park: Manton, Rutland Water LE15 8RN
A very large field site, very close to Rutland water.
No facilities, hookups or hardstanding.
Often used as a rally field.
The Paddock Campsite : Manton, Rutland Water LE15 8RN
A small and friendly Camping & Caravan Club CS right opposite Lyndon Top.
Open from March to September.
The Lodge Trust Campsite: Market Overton, Rutland LE15 7PL
A small and friendly Camping & Caravan Club CS in a lovely rural Rutland village.
Wymondham Windmill Campsite: Wymondham, Leicestershire. LE142BU
This campsite is in Rural Leicestershire, just outside Rutland – but it is worth including. It is on a site with a windmill which is currently undergoing renovation, there is also a cafe, gift shop and bike shop next door.
Some of the cafe’s facilities can be used by campers.
Big and Bold – Family Campsites with lots of Pitches and more Facilities
Rutland Caravan & Camping Site: Greetham Rutland, Rutland Water LE15 7FN
Located in the village of Greetham, this is a large family-run campsite welcoming adults and children. The pitches are are a mixture of hard-standing and grass, it has two amenity blocks, a children’s play ground, and even a doggy shower. There are lodges available too.
Peace & Tranquility – Quiet and Friendly 5* Campsites for Adults Only
Greendale Farm Caravan & Camping Park: Pickwell Lane, Whissendine, Rutland LE15 7LB
A Tranquil Parks site catering for adults only. Greendale is graded 5* by Visit England; the small landscaped site is a perfect base for relaxing whilst visiting Rutland. With a lovely little pool, a shop, a spotless toilet and shower block and a lovely view. There’s a great dog-friendly pub in the village, and a friendly shop too.
